Dr. Les

Dr. Les entered Queen’s University in the fall of 1985 intending to pursue a medical degree. While attending school, she started working part time at a chiropractic office and immediately began seeing and understanding the potential of chiropractic to not only help alleviate pain but also improve lives.

A new patient to the clinic had chronic low back pain to such an extent that his temperament had become sour and disheartened. After only a few chiropractic sessions, the pain diminished significantly and his true thoughtful, kind, and giving nature returned. She witnessed similar transformations regularly while she worked there and was astonished at the changes she had seen in the quality of life for these patients.   Attracted to this potential to change lives, she redirected her career path to pursue chiropractic. Dr. Les graduated from Queen’s in 1990 with degrees in biology and physical education.

That fall, Dr. Les entered the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, where she and Dr. Ian happened to meet within the first week. Their relationship blossomed over the next four years such that, after graduating in 1994, they married and moved to Lethbridge.

Dr. Les and Dr. Ian have two children. Their daughter, Meghan, attends St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, where she plays rugby and is in her 4th year in business management.  Their son, Quinn, is in his second year at Lethbridge College, where he plays varsity volleyball.

In her spare time, Dr. Les enjoys spinning, rowing, and golfing. She has been an avid (ultra)marathon runner in the past. Her true passion is basketball, which she developed while playing 5 years for the varsity team at Queen’s University. She coaches local teams here in Lethbridge, including junior high and club teams. She enjoys developing local talent in athletes and loves watching the youth she has coached as they participate in all sorts of sports.

Dr. Ian

While in his last year of high school and preparing for university, Dr. Ian had planned to go into chemical engineering.

A few weeks after submitting his applications, his grandfather, who was a chiropractor, passed away. While in Sault Ste. Marie for the funeral, Dr. Ian and his brother went through some of their grandfather’s belongings.  While searching for some old duck decoys or fishing equipment, they happened to come across a beautiful, wooden, antique pendulum wall clock. This clock was unique in that, instead of the usual numbers, they were replaced with the 12 letters that spell the work “chiropractic”.

While holding that old clock in his lap and examining its features, Dr. Ian had what can only be described, literally, as an epiphany. There was an instantaneous, absolute certainty that he was meant to become a chiropractor, not an engineer. Without hesitation, Dr. Ian changed his career path and began the educational journey that saw him graduate as a 4th generation chiropractor.

After graduating with his undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, Dr. Ian enrolled at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He met Dr. Les in their first week of school! After graduation in 1994, Dr. Ian and Dr. Les married, moved to Lethbridge, and opened a clinic together.  As a reminder of that life-changing moment in the attic, and of the amazing man who originally owned it, that clock hangs in the main hallway of the Southern Chiropractic clinic to this day.

Dr. Ian and Dr. Les have two children. Their daughter, Meghan, attends St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, where she plays rugby and is entering her 4th year in business management.  Their son, Quinn, is in his second year at Lethbridge College, where he plays varsity volleyball.

In his spare time, Dr. Ian enjoys hiking, golfing, and listening to 80s music in the garage while working on his newest project: restoring a ’73 Buick, like the one his dad used to drive.
