Dr. Les
Dr. Les began her university studies at Queen’s University in 1985 with plans to pursue medicine. While attending school, she worked part-time in a chiropractic office, where she quickly discovered the profound impact chiropractic care could have on people’s lives—not only by relieving pain but by restoring health, mobility, and quality of life.
There was one patient, particularly that left a lasting impression. His chronic low back pain had affected every aspect of his life, leaving him discouraged and withdrawn. After just a few chiropractic treatments, his pain improved dramatically, and his warm, kind, and generous personality returned. Witnessing transformations like this inspired Dr. Les to change her career path and pursue chiropractic.
She graduated from Queen’s University in 1990 with degrees in biology and physical education before attending the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto.
During her first week there, she met Dr. Ian. Their friendship grew throughout chiropractic school, and after graduating in 1994, they married and moved to Lethbridge to begin practicing together.
Today, Dr. Les provides individualized care using a variety of techniques, including manual adjustments, Activator Methods®, Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT), and acupuncture. Her SOT training has given her extensive experience working with infants and children, allowing her to care for patients of all ages. Since adding acupuncture to her practice in 2024, she has found it to be an excellent complement for patients with more complex or persistent conditions.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Les enjoys camping, hiking, golfing, and staying active. She has coached basketball at both the junior high and club levels and is passionate about helping young athletes develop their skills and confidence. She and Dr. Ian also cherish spending time with their two grown children, Meghan and Quinn.
Dr. Ian
As he prepared for university during his final year of high school, Dr. Ian planned to study chemical engineering. Shortly after submitting his applications, however, his grandfather—a chiropractor—passed away.
While helping sort through his grandfather’s belongings, Dr. Ian discovered an antique wooden pendulum clock unlike any he had ever seen. Instead of numbers, the clock face displayed the twelve letters that spell “CHIROPRACTIC”. As he sat holding the clock, he experienced what he describes as a life-changing moment of clarity. In that instant, he knew he was meant to become a chiropractor rather than an engineer.
He changed his plans immediately, completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto, and enrolled at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. During his first week there, he met Dr. Les. After graduating together in 1994, they married, moved to Lethbridge, and opened their practice.
Dr. Ian is proud to be a fourth-generation chiropractor. The antique clock that inspired his career still hangs in the main hallway of Southern Chiropractic as a reminder of his grandfather and the unexpected moment that shaped his life’s work.
When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Ian enjoys hiking, golfing, and listening to 80s music while restoring his 1973 Buick—a project inspired by the car his father once drove. He and Dr. Les also love spending time with their two grown children, Meghan and Quinn.
